The Foundation’s expert committee has announced the winners of the “Summer with Purpose” integrative summer camps competition. In 2017 the Foundation will be supporting five projects. Here is the list of winners:
1. RHEA Women’s Union (Georgia)
2. “Doroga” (“Road”) youth union (Petrozavodsk)
3. “Zhiznenny put” (“Life Journey”) foundation to support people with disabilities (Moscow)
4. United Hearts Foundation (Ukraine)
5. “Budushee est” (“There is a Future”) organisation (Vologda)
The Foundation experts devised a system for assessing the applications. Special attention was given to the methods and technologies used by staff, not only during the camp sessions but also in their daily work. The following factors were also assessed:
– Overall quality of the application
– Link between the camp services and programmes implemented throughout the year
– Suitability of the camp (with/without parents, services offered, tents or solid structures, etc.)
– Who is paying for the camp, does the organisation already have the funds to run it?
– Where and what the staff study
– Level of English among the staff
It will be a busy summer for the winners. The next stage of the Summer with Purpose 2017 competition is a training session for the specialists at the Rising Sun summer camp for children with autism in Albuquerque, USA, organised by the University of New Mexico.
In early June, two specialists from each winning organisation will complete a week-long training session at the Rising Sun camp accompanied by Naked Heart experts Tatiana Morozova and Svyatoslav Dovbnya.
The Rising Sun camp uses up-to-date working methods such as visual supports, communication development and sensory integration. Special attention is given to developing the social skills of children and young people with autism. The use of such methods helps children to become independent, decreases negative behaviour and improves children’s ability to forge relationships with other people.
Upon their return from the camp, the specialists will start preparing sessions at their own summer camps. The experience gained and the new methods learned can then be applied in practice in order to ensure that summer camps are not only fun for children with ASD, but also beneficial in the long term.
Each of the winning organisations will receive 500,000 RUB for the implementation of their own summer camp sessions for children with ASD. Click here to see the full programme and participation and selection conditions.
We are grateful to everyone who joined the Naked Heart/Guerlain team to run the Paris Half Marathon in March 2017 and helped us raise funds for this project. All the runners raised money on a dedicated JustGiving page. Click here to read more about the run and its results.
About our integrative camps
Since 2011, the Naked Heart Foundation has been supporting integrative summer camps projects, which play an important role in the physical, psychological and intellectual development of children and young people with special needs. In 2015 we changed the format of the camps competition, with the addition of a special training programme developed by the Foundation in collaboration with leading experts from the University of New Mexico for professionals from the winning non-profit organisations. The results of the project were praised highly both by the specialists from the University of New Mexico who conducted the supervision sessions with the trained professionals and by the staff from the regional non-profit organisations that took part in the project.
