On 27 May, the Running Hearts Green Marathon will be taking place once again! #runwithpurpose
The Running Hearts charity run was founded in 2015 by Polina Kitsenko and Natalia Vodianova in aid of the Naked Heart Foundation. In 2017, the Foundation and Sberbank announced that they would be working in partnership to merge the Running Hearts race and Sberbank’s Green Marathon.
The Running Hearts Green Marathon is supported by Coca-Cola, Megafon, Nike and Gunvor Group. The event organizers are Sberbank, the Naked Heart Foundation and PK Connection agency and the technical partner is 3sport.
Last year, Moscow’s Running Hearts Green Marathon became one of Russia’s most successful charity sporting events, raising a record 50 million roubles. All the funds raised went to the Naked Heart Foundation to help develop its Early Intervention project for young children with special needs and their families. Thanks to the funds raised, more than 500 families in five cities gained access to free support services at family support centres, early intervention centres a centre for child psychoneurology and preschools in which the Naked Heart project is being implemented.
This year we’re doing it all again, but bigger, faster and stronger! The event will be taking place in 54 towns across Russia, as well as in other countries in which Sberbank operates, and more than 150,000 people will be taking part. In keeping with tradition, the main run will take place in Moscow, where for the first time the starting line will be right next to the famous St Basil’s Cathedral in the city centre. Participants will be able to choose from one of three distances: 3 km, 10 km or 21.1 km. The event is fully inclusive and includes a separate 10-km race for wheelchair-users. There will also be a special option for corporate participants, as well as journalists, to run as a team.
For the runners, the most important thing is reaching the finish line. For children with special needs, it is getting the support they need at the start! This year we will continue to collect donations with a view to expanding our Early Intervention project for young children with disabilities and their families. The project is being implemented under the Every Child Deserves a Family programme, which was launched in 2011.
As in previous years, a large number of Olympic and Paralympic champions, stars of the stage and screen, journalists, politicians, businesspeople, media representatives and corporate teams will take part in the race. After the race the runners will be able to celebrate the great work they have done at a specially organised concert.
